Forest bathing benefits: Heart, mind and body

Učinki gozdne kopeli: SRCE, UM IN TELO

Forest bathing benefits: Heart, mind and body

Nature effects us — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Many people are experiencing frustration, dissatisfaction or anger due to the current situation. In distress, we quickly forget that we have power over our own well-being and reactions. Nature can help us to be in better mood while it is unconditionally offering us fields, forests and meadows to visit.

How much time are we supposed to spend in nature to get that maximum effect? At least 120 minutes a week. This is also confirmed by the results of the research.

Tehnologija ima prednosti, a naša telesa potrebujejo veliko več

Starodavni prebivalci zemlje so bili z zemljo močno povezani. In to prepogosto pozabimo. Človeško telo potrebuje sonce, gozdne poti, svež zrak in zvok narave.

Druženje v naravi je bilo nekaj naravnega in je zmeraj prineslo veliko lepih spominov druženja z okoliškimi otroci in družino. Že samo kratek sprehod v naravi sprosti, prinese nove moči in napolni naša pljuča s čistim zrakom.

Technology has its adavantages, though our body needs much more

The old inhabitants were strongly connected with the earth. They depended on it, as their lives depended on the crop. They were connected with the earth as we are today with technology and our phones. It is true that electronic devices allow us instant communication every day and much more, but has this made our lives any better? Or does technology overuse make us depressed and estranged from each other? Technology has its advantages, but our bodies need much more for mental and physical well-being. And we forget that too often. The human body needs sun, forest paths, fresh air and the sound of nature.

Ever since I was little, I loved walking and playing in the woods and climbing trees. Sšending time outdoors in nature was something natural, where we would alway make special memories with other children and family. Just a short walk in nature relaxes, brings new strength and fills our lungs with clean air.

Forest bathing

Japanese researchers have studied “forest bathing” — a poetic name for walking in the woods. They suspect aerosols from the forests, inhaled during a walk, are behind elevated levels of Natural Killer or NK cells in the immune system, which fight tumors and infections.

Researchers, primarily in Japan and South Korea, have conducted studies on the health benefits of spending time amongst the trees, demonstrating that forest bathing positively creates calming neuro-psychological effects through changes in the nervous system, reducing the stress hormone cortisol and boosting the immune system.

Tip: Spending time in nature affect our emotional, mental and physical health. What are you waiting for? Go for a walk, breath clean fresh air and enjoy natural sounds.

Moč drevesa

Naši predniki so spoštovali naravo in drevesa. Drevesa in gozdovi imajo pomembno vlogo tudi danes, saj shranjujejo zaloge ogljika, varujejo vodne vire, omogočajo razvoj in preživetje mnogoterim organizmom.

The power of trees

Our ancestors respected nature and trees. For them, the tree was a symbol of life and an important element of faith, while on the contrary, the destruction of trees posed a serious threat and the shrinking of an already small space of a green space. Trees and forests also play important rule today, as they store carbon stocks, protect water resources, and enable the development and survival of many organisms.

Our ancestors extremely appreciated trees and were aware of their electromagnetic field or aura, which actually brings us back to ourselves and to childhood at any time,“ said Antonija Krajnc, consultant for the use of old scientists and quality of life.

Connect with trees – advice from Antonija Krajnc:

You should select a young healthy tree and ask for help. It’s quite simple.

Tip: Close your eyes and lean against a tree or hug it and ask. You will certainly get your answer, it might be in the form of associations or in a dream.

Everyone who has ever ended a busy day with a long walk in nature knows, escaping to a natural setting can be very therapeutic. The sights, sounds, and smells of nature produce an automatic relaxing effect on both body and mind.  This influences blood pressure and heart rate, as well as hormonal biomarkers of stress like salivary cortisol and the biofeedback measure known as heart rate variability that ultimately impact blood sugar and cholesterol.  Multiple studies have shown that spending time in nature significantly reduces these measures of stress to a degree that may actually be saving people’s lives.

Nature reduces stress and improves the quality of life

Activities in nature

If you love being active, you can start collecting herbs or different fruits in nature (depending on the period and location). Now in autumn is the time for chestnuts and mushrooms, for instance, from wild chestnut you can make yourself a wild chestnut extract. We always emphasize the importance of respecting nature, so avoid making loud noises while collecting herbs or visiting natural places. We don’t want to disturb the animals that live in a particular natural environment. It is also recommendable to have a bag with us for our garbage or for collected waste we found along the way.

Tip: Make something different today. Try to learn something new about the mushrooms and plants, which are growing close by. Collect herbs wisely and don’t cause damage to plants.

Spending time in nature is not only “nice thing to do”, but it also affects us mentally, psychically and emotionally. Start with today to reach that 120 minutes. Your heart and mind will be grateful.
